Abe’s eclecticism continues its singular musical path as one person production in his new release, Calypso Love. He weaves acoustic earthy grooves in different time signatures and creates melodies using the banjo as a grounding instrument. This is complemented by ukuleles, a cheap mini guitar, violin, Latin percussion, all which echo African music infectious repetition, to create a rich tapestry of familiar folky sounds. The compositions are empathetic odes to resilience, identity, honesty, self-love, mental health, inclusivity, vulnerabil-ity, as well as the pursuit of happiness and love among many other themes.Despite battling crippling physical conditions, he makes it to the end of each song in a vibrant and dynamic way, creating a range of different grooves and styles within the album. Sometimes vocal ability is not how music should be judged and there are plenty of examples in contempo-rary music. Calypso Love continues in a tradition of raw, unschooled and primitive Folk sounds always keeping the essence of Abe’s positive upbeat funky style. Music flows through him and he is glad to share it with the rest of the world.
